As a special type of motor used for control, stepper motors cannot be directly connected to DC or AC power sources and must use dedicated driving power sources (stepper motor drivers). Before the development of microelectronics technology, especially computer technology, controllers (pulse signal generators) were completely implemented by hardware. Control systems used separate components or integrated circuits to form control circuits, which not only required complex debugging and installation, but also consumed a large number of components. Once finalized, if the control scheme needed to be changed, the circuit had to be redesigned. This makes it necessary to develop different drivers for different motors, with high development difficulty and cost, and difficult control, which limits the promotion of stepper motors. [2]
Due to the fact that stepper motors are devices that convert electrical pulses into discrete mechanical movements and have excellent data control characteristics, computers have become the ideal driving source for stepper motors. With the development of microelectronics and computer technology, the combination of software and hardware control methods has become mainstream, that is, generating control pulses through programs to drive hardware circuits. The microcontroller controls the stepper motor through software, better tapping into the potential of the motor. Therefore, using microcontrollers to control stepper motors has become an inevitable trend, which is also in line with the trend of digitalization.
